DAY 2, Thursday - Arrive in Yangon

Welcome to Myanmar! Arrive in exotic Yangon, Myanmar's largest city; transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to rest, relax and acclimate to your new time zone

DAY 3, Friday – Explore Yangon

After breakfast, attend an orientation meeting at approximately 8 AM with your Tour Manager and fellow travelers. Afterward, begin the exploration of Yangon at the Bogyoke Aung San Museum, former home of the father of Nobel Peace Prize laureate and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Then, proceed to downtown Yangon where the British colonial influence is still evident, walking past street vendors to the octagon-shaped Sule Pagoda over 2,500 years old. View the imposing City Hall, a fine example of Burmese architecture. Stop at the Independence Monument in Mahabandoola Gardens, (Victoria Park) with its striking white obelisk honoring Burma's freedom from Great Britain in 1948. After lunch at a local restaurant, proceed to the famous Bogyoke Aung San Market, known for its colonial architecture and inner cobblestone streets. Afterward, visit the majestic hilltop 2,500-year-old Shwedagon Pagoda, the country's spiritual landmark, an incredible array of golden stupas, serene Buddhas and intricate mythical beasts. End the day with a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant accompanied by lively entertainment and a traditional dance performance

DAY 4, Saturday – Flight to Mandalay, Mahagandayon Monastery

Transfer to the airport for your early morning flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival, drive to Amarapura, a former capital of Burma. Stroll along the 200-year-old U Bein Bridge, the oldest teak bridge in the world. Today, the bridge is a central part of the community with hundreds of locals and saffron-robed monks walking across and fishermen netting their daily catch in its shadow. Continue to the massive Mahagandayon Monastery, where more than 1,000 monks live and study together. Visit a wood carving workshop. Following lunch, drive to Maha Myat Muni. Visit a gold leaf workshop and later ascend to Mandalay Hill, the landmark of Mandalay. The hill is dotted with pagodas and monasteries and serves as a major pilgrimage site for Burmese Buddhists. Tonight, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant

DAY 5, Sunday – Irrawaddy River Cruise, Mingun’s Temple and Bell, Mandalay Sightseeing

A morning cruise on the Irrawaddy River takes you to the ancient city of Mingun. Visit the monumental Mingun Temple, an unfinished pagoda. Its construction began in 1790 by King Bodawpaya but was never completed. Admire its 90 ton ringing Mingun bell, the world’s largest. Nearby, view the beautiful white Myatheindan Pagoda modeled after mythical Mount Meru, dedicated to his consort and cousin Princess Hsinbyume. Lunch at nearby restaurant before returning to Mandalay. Visit the gilded Kuthodaw Pagoda, which contains over 700 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist teachings, commonly referred to as "the world's largest book". At the Shwenandaw Monastery, originally part of the Royal Palace in Amarapura, view one of the best examples of traditional Myanmar-style intricate woodcarvings in the country. Tonight, gather together for dinner at a local restaurant

DAY 6, Monday – Bagan’s 2,000 Temples

A short flight early this morning brings you to Bagan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the country's spiritual center with its over 2,000 pagodas, stupas and temples dotting the golden plains of the city - an astonishing sight to behold! Visit the golden stupa of the Shwezigon Pagoda, built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century as a religious shrine. Explore the magnificent whitewashed Ananda Temple, that houses four standing Buddhas and the cave temple of Gubyaukgyi, covered with beautiful murals and carvings. Conclude with a visit to Manuha Temple, one of the oldest temples in Bagan. After lunch at a local restaurant, check in to your hotel, with free time to rest. End the day inspired by the gorgeous sunset and exquisite views of the city. Tonight, dinner is at the hotel

DAY 7, Tuesday – Thatbyinnyu & Dhammayangyi Temples, Home Hosted Lunch, Sunset Cruise, Myanmar Puppet Show

The day begins with a visit to Dhammayangyi Pahto and Thatbyinnyu Temples. Next, on to a palm tree workshop; learn more about collecting toddy (palm tree juice), an ingredient used for many diverse products, including liquor, molasses and oils. A highlight of the day is an exclusive invitation to join a local family at a home hosted lunch, along with conversation about the country’s customs and traditions. Afterwards, visit a lacquerware workshop, one of Bagan’s most famous exported craft, before returning to the hotel. A sunset cruise along the Irrawaddy River completes the day -- enjoy sweeping views of the city’s glistening temples as the sun begins to set -- a different prospective of the city. In the evening, dinner is at a local restaurant, followed by a special performance of the celebrated Myanmar Puppets

An early morning flight takes you to Heho (Inle Lake). Upon arrival, travel to Pindaya famous for its ancient limestone caves, en route admire the stunning scenery of the Shan mountains. After lunch, take a tour of the caves, which contain over 8,000 images of Buddha dating back as far as 1750, the Pindaya Cave has the most impressive collection of Buddhist iconography. Pindaya is also one of the key places where local style umbrellas and Shan paper are made. Visit a family-run workshop and witness the making of the famous Shan paper, stemming from the fiber of the mulberry tree. Continue to Inle Lake for dinner and overnight

DAY 9, Thursday – Cooking Class at Thahara Inle Heritage, Phaung-Daw-Oo Pagoda, Nga Phe Chaung Monastery

Board a ship that takes you on an exploration of the placid lake, stilt-house villages and beautiful floating gardens of the Intha tribe. You may see the legendary leg rowers; native fishermen deftly gripping a single long bamboo oar with one leg paddling long flat-bottomed boats around the lake dressed in traditional Shan attire. Afterward, participate in a cooking class led by a chef at Thahara Inle Heritage. Local Burmese specialties will be prepared by you, with the help of the chef, before a delicious lunch together. Of course, recipes will be given to you to take home! After lunch, view Phaung-Daw-Oo Pagoda, the lake's main sanctuary and visit the Shah-style Nga-Phe-Chaung Monastery. Sip tea and share snacks at Intha village. After a wonderful day on the lake, return to the hotel in time for dinner

DAY 10, Friday – Kakku Pagoda, Aye Thar Yar Winery & Wine Tasting

Begin the day with a drive to Kakku, that takes you through beautiful scenery of rice paddies and luscious green pastures. Upon arrival, visit the spectacular Kakku Pagodas complex with its more than 2000 stupas arranged in straight rows sprawling over a hillside near Inle Lake. The site is believed to date back to 3rd century BC. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Aye Thar Yar Winery for a tasting of locally grown wines. Head back to the hotel with time to freshen up before dinner tonight

DAY 11, Saturday – Flight to Yangon, National Museum

This morning, transfer to the airport for a short flight back to Yangon. Upon arrival, have lunch at a local restaurant. Later, proceed to the National Museum, which houses an extensive collection of priceless ancient artifacts, historic memorabilia, and works of art. Following your museum visit, check in to your hotel and spend time at leisure before dinner. Tonight, share wonderful memories of your journey through Myanmar with your fellow travelers at the Farewell Dinner
